Job: Team Leader / Principal Ecologist - Flora & Fauna (10413)

With National and International offices, our client is a large engineering consultancy focused on delivering water, mining, rail and road infrastructure projects. Due to recent project wins and the promotion of a key member of staff, they have a significant amount of long-term secure work for their environmental team. This has led an immediate need for a Team Leader/Principal Ecologist with a focus on flora and fauna assessments.
Working as part of a diverse and multi-disciplined team, your role will be the management of a team of environmental professionals, including:
- Project managing and overseeing multiple environmental and ecological projects to varying degrees of complexity
- Working with Net Gain, Habitat Hectare Assessments, EPBC Act referrals and other relevant environmental legislation and assessment programs
- Producing environmental management plans, fauna management and recovery plans and some fauna recovery
- Writing a range of reports to various professional audiences
- Leading teams and mentoring juniors including management of day to day project and personnel issues
- Conducting technical reviews
- Monitoring or auditing during construction (such as pipeline construction, development construction etc)
To be considered for this role, you will be a suitably qualified environmental scientist with a minimum of 7-10 years’ experience in environmental/flora and fauna assessment. In addition you will ideally you will have:
- Significant experience within a consulting environment and be able to provide sound advice to clients and internal staff
- Worked as a manager or be on the path to a management role
- Extensive experience with Environmental Impact Assessments (particularly Flora and Fauna Assessments), NetGain and Habitat Hectare Assessments, EPBC Act Referrals, Arboricultural Assessment etc.
- An understanding of the interrelationships and complexities between different disciplines such as ecology, environmental science, archaeology, planning, engineering, project management etc and how they come together to produce successful projects.
- Dealt with the some big/complex projects involving areas of high environmental significance
- ‘Seen a pipe go into the ground’. That is, you will have experience with construction on site.
- A well-established reputation within the industry and have good relationships with relevant government authorities like DSE, DEWHA, Council and the EPA.
